Check the Pattern
This might sound like a no brainer but definitely the most important step. So that you are not caught off-guard on the very day of the exam, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the exam pattern really well. Generally, the format of the exam consists of multiple-choice questions, with a total of 100 questions for 100 points. The topics English Language, Numerical Ability or Qualitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability for the Prelims. And General/Financial Awareness, General English, Qualitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude for the Mains.
Practise!
Again, something you should know by now. The more you practise, the better are your chances of cracking the main exam. the mock tests not only help you understand the kind of questions that might appear on the actual exam, but it also helps you figure out where your strengths and weakness lie. You will also feel more confident and understand the questions better as you go on. If you do happen to join a coaching centre, they generally help you solved all the questions and also hold mock tests from time to time.
Time Management
You will have limited time during the actual exam day. Within the allotted time you have to complete all the questions successfully and also stay focused. The more you practise the mock tests the easier it will be for you to manage time. This way, you will not get stuck at some questions and you will also understand the pattern. The more you practise, you will realise how much time you need to solve the sections, which section takes up the most time, which ones are the easiest, which one requires more thinking time. And so on.
Stay Focused
The main focus should be not only to complete the exam on time but also to answer the questions correctly. Remember there is negative marking for each question. So, you need to be accurate with your answers to avoid any mistakes and lose points.
